Doctors warn that loss of smell may be a symptom of Covid-19 infection

As the Coronavirus continues to spread uncontrollably across the world, Doctors and researchers still have much to learn about the exact symptoms caused by virus but a group of experts from the Royal College of Surgeons of England claimed that the loss of ability to smell could be a sign of the coronavirus infection in asymptomatic people.

The ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists said in a joint statement that some patients infected with the virus experience anosmia, or an inability to smell. A symptom very much similar to a common cold.

A number of evidence from South Korea, China, and Germany positive covid patients developed a loss of smell in the absence of other symptoms.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology also recommended for anosmia to be added to a list of screening tools for Covid-19. According to Maria Van Kerkhove, the head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonoses unit, said that U.N. health agency is looking into this theory to see if this is a common feature.
