METRO MANILA – Malacañang confirmed today that President Rodrigo Duterte has nominated lawyer Michael Peloton as the new Commission on Elections commisioner today.
Peloton, a lawyer, was nominated to the poll body for a term until February 2027. He will be replacing Commissioner Luie Tito Guia.
Comelec Chair Sheriff Abas said that Peloton with his background on Information technology, will be joining the agency at an exciting and challenging times since the preparation for the 2022 election is currently underway.
Abas added that Peloton will complement the existing members of the Commission En Banc as the Comelec strives to fulfill its mandate to strengthen our democracy.
Malacañang is confident and optimistic that the incoming Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner will ensure a clean, modernized and credible election in the country for the coming years.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque congratulated Peloton and said that they expect Mr. Peloton to serve the Commission with integrity and professionalism in the conduct of free, clean, honest, orderly and credible polls.
Peloton’s appointment must still undergo the approval of the Commission on Appointments (CA) before he can be sworn into office.
Comelec has recently resumed voters’ registration, a process that will still require physically going to any of its office while practicing social distancing and health protocols. The registration will end in September 2021.
