A patient of Manila Doctors Hospital, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, has died, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The confirmed death is the patient confined to ID PH35 at Manila Doctors Hospital in Manila City.
The Philippine health department referred to the 35th patient who was a 67-year-old Filipino with no history of travel.
The said Filipino has been admitted to hospital this Wednesday and has been tested positive for the disease.
The first disease-related fatality involved a Chinese man, 44, who was admitted to Manila’s San Lazaro Hospital.
The Chinese man’s case has also become the first COVID-19 death recorded outside mainland China.
It was also the case that prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to impose on China and its Special Administrative Regions (SARs), including Hong Kong and Macau, a travel ban.
The coronavirus disease was caused by the novel coronavirus that was first identified in China in late 2019 from Wuhan City, Hubei Province.
The International Committee on Virus Taxonomy classified SARS-CoV-2 as the novel coronavirus.
The novel coronavirus causes respiratory symptoms like fever and cough, but it can cause serious diseases such as pneumonia, especially for older adults and people with established health problems.
