Choi Min-hwan, the drummer of the K-pop band FTISLAND, and Yulhee, a former member of the girl group LABOUM, have decided to end their marriage after five years, according to their respective agencies.
On Monday night, FNC Entertainment, Choi’s agency, confirmed the news in a statement, saying, “The two decided to divorce after careful consideration, and are in the process of arranging the divorce. Choi has agreed to have custody of the three children.”
Choi also posted a message on his social media, expressing his regret and apology to his fans and family. He wrote, “I regret to inform you of the news I’m sharing after such a long time isn’t positive. I’m approaching this with care as it involves a difficult decision. After lengthy discussions, my wife and I have mutually agreed to bring our marriage to an end. I apologize to all of you who supported and witnessed our journey in building a family at a young age.” He added that he will do his best as a father and to share positive updates in the future.
Yulhee, who is currently under Global H Media, also shared her side of the story on her social media. She wrote, “After much time, we have decided to support each other’s separate paths. Our journey as a couple concludes here, but we remain committed as the mother and father of our children. Both of us are actively caring for and maintaining communication with the children to the best of our abilities.” She explained that they have decided that Choi will take care of the three children, as they believe it is better for them to stay in the familiar environment they have known. She also asked for understanding and a warm gaze from the public.
Choi and Yulhee made their relationship public in September 2017, when they admitted they were dating. Yulhee left LABOUM shortly after the revelation. In May 2018, they welcomed their first child, a son, and got married in October of the same year. In 2020, they had twin daughters, expanding their family to five members.
They appeared on various TV shows, such as KBS’s “Mr. House Husband” and Channel A’s “Oh Eun-young’s Golden Clinic”, to share their daily lives and challenges as a young couple and parents. They also revealed their differences in financial and parenting views on the latter show.
