Health Minister Dzulkefly: Coronavirus recovery rate is high

PUTRAJAYA – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad claimed the recovery rate for patients infected by the 2019 novel coronavirus is high.

He said the rate of recovery was four times higher at 2.2 percent. 3,496 out of 40,555 or 8.6 per cent of the cases tested positive had recovered with only 910 deaths were accounted as of yesterday.

For comparison, The Sars outbreak which also originated from China caused 8,098 people to be positive and 774 deaths worldwide. A 9.6 percent mortality rate.

“This should be viewed as a positive development not only for Malaysia, but for the whole world. The coronavirus is not a death sentence virus to us.”

Three coronavirus who recovered in Malaysia are all Chinese. The health minister is expecting the infection rate to slow down as the virus are seen to be more active in cold conditions.
