Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 Venues

Solo: Food, Markets and Javanese Heritage

Solo is at the centre of the opening phase of WIG 2026. The programme uses locations connected with the city’s culinary and cultural identity.

Important Solo locations and experiences include:

  • Pasar Gede, a major traditional market and food destination.
  • Kampung Laweyan, known for its batik heritage.
  • Rumah Atsiri, combining botanical heritage with culinary and sensory experiences.
  • Traditional culinary destinations across the Solo area.

The focus is on showing how food is connected with markets, communities, crafts and historic traditions.

Yogyakarta: Artisan Food and Heritage

Yogyakarta becomes another major hub during the final part of the programme.

The Artisan Market at the Grand Hotel De Djokja is held from 2nd to 4th October. It has 21 tenants from Joglosemar and Jakarta, and offers visitors a chance to explore local products, food and creative businesses.

The programme is also broader in scope, linking food experiences in Yogyakarta to other key cultural sites like Borobudur and Prambanan.

Top Highlights of Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026

Cultural Dinner at Prambanan

One of the highlights is a Cultural Dinner at Prambanan, where the concept of gastronomy is tied to one of the most significant cultural heritage sites in Indonesia.

The event aims to show the audience that food is not just a tourism product, but also part of the Indonesian culture, as part of WIG 2026 which has a broader goal to present food as a representation of the Indonesian identity.

Local Food and Culinary Heritage

The programme emphasizes the fact that Indonesia is so rich in food resources that are found in the region. You can taste traditional dishes, sample local ingredients and taste local cooking methods and learn more about the people that created them.

The culinary tradition of Java also plays an important role in Yogyakarta and Solo, where it is still closely related to the local history and royal tradition.

Gourmet and Local Eateries Guides

Another major development is the launch of the Indonesia Gourmet Guide and Indonesia Local Eateries Guide.

Together, the guides feature 300 culinary destinations:

  • 150 gourmet restaurants
  • 150 local eateries and culinary destinations

The Gourmet Guide is devoted to the best in restaurants, the Local Eateries Guide features traditional restaurant culture, markets, and everyday food.

These guides are a good starting point for those who wish to learn more about Indonesian gastronomy than is offered in the popular tourist restaurants.

Why Solo and Yogyakarta Were Chosen

The two subjects, Solo and Yogyakarta, are intimately related to their status as cultural hubs of Java.

Both cities feature historic palaces, traditional markets, crafts, performing arts and unique food traditions. WIG 2026 is an initiative that illustrates the potential of the three sectors of gastronomy, heritage and tourism to function together in a cultural setting.

The programme is also related to Indonesia’s broader initiative on promoting culinary tourism abroad and making Indonesian food as one of the important elements of the tourism identity of Indonesia.
