Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower has been highlighting the importance of AI (Artificial intelligence) in workforce upskilling. AI, the intelligence of machines or software, is gaining momentum across the world, including Indonesia.
Do you know that Indonesia is leading the way in adopting AI at work? Indonesia is also prioritizing AI in workforce upskilling. How can AI affect and benefit Indonesia?
While AI offers increased efficiency and productivity, it also has certain negative effects. The Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia has noted the importance of increasing the capabilities of employees in Indonesia in adapting to AI advancements.
According to LinkedIn, Indonesians scored the highest in the Southeast Asia region in adoption of AI tools at work. LinkedIn conducted global consumer research on AI at the workplace. LinkedIn, the business and employment-focused social media platform, found that the Republic of Indonesia has already started to integrate AI in day-to-day work.
The result of the LinkedIn research is based on responses from 29,000 workers, who are above 16 years of age. The research was conducted by Censuswide between August 23 and 30, 2023. Around 6,624 of the respondents were from Southeast Asia, including 2,009 from Singapore, 1,513 from Malaysia, 1,527 from the Philippines, and 1,575 from Indonesia.
Around 78% of respondents from Indonesia said that AI would significantly help their work. Around 76% of workers from the Philippines said that AI can significantly change the way they work.
Around 72 percent of respondents from Indonesia are already using AI at work. LinkedIn has highlighted that Indonesians are the most active when using AI at work.
AI can help Indonesians by promoting collaboration among the government officials, industry, and the public. AI is already helping various sectors in Indonesia, including logistics, human resource, education, cybersecurity, and customer service.
In HR, AI can help to summarize financial reports and offer valuable insights to workers. In education, students can enjoy customized learning journeys by adopting AI. In cybersecurity, AI can help protect IT systems.
However, AI has certain negative effects. Artificial intelligence increases the risks of hacking. If AI algorithms are built with a bias or the data, they will provide biased results. AI also poses great ethical challenges to the community because certain results cannot reveal the full story.
