Hosted by LOCCO, Keretapi Sarong celebrates Malaysia’s cultural variety by turning trains and public areas into a celebration.
The event is held on Wednesday, 16th September, the day of Malaysia Day. According to Tourism Malaysia, Keretapi Sarong 2026 is a Visit Malaysia 2026 signature event with an estimated participation of approximately 10,000 participants nationwide, with the more recent organiser reporting a total of around 25,000 participants.
This year, the 2026 edition has grown to 10 cities across the country, from Padang Besar to Langkawi, Sungai Petani, George Town, Ipoh, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu and Kuantan. Kuching’s event has been delayed for December due to haze.
Klang Valley Keretapi Sarong Gathering Stations
The Klang Valley Keretapi Sarong celebration has 12 starting stations which are selected as Stesen Pemula. Groups will then get on the public transport from these places, and slowly merge onto the destination spot.
Some of the event’s secretiveness has been preserved with not all starting points having been widely advertised with the traditional method of advertising. But there are a number of 2026 gathering points for which there is independent confirmation.
One of the official starting stations is Hang Tuah LRT Station and the activities will be held from 8am. MRT Mutiara Damansara is another confirmed starting point with AmBank’s programme running from 8am to 9.30am before they proceed to their next destination.
KL Sentral and LRT Subang Jaya are also among reported 2026 activation points.
MRT Titiwangsa Gets a Women-Only Station
One of the highlights of Keretapi Sarong 2026 is the special station Stesen Wanita, MRT Titiwangsa.
The women-only gathering point, which was introduced after a community request for a women-friendly space, especially in crowded train stations and trains, is a welcome initiative.
It does not imply that MRT Titiwangsa is all-girls for normal passengers, it is just for the gathering experience in Keretapi.
Keretapi Sarong Secret Destination: How It Works

MRT Etiquette During Keretapi Sarong 2026
The celebration is held on an operating public transport system and regular travellers will be travelling with the celebration.
Clear entrances to stations, escalators and train doors. Let passengers get off the bus before getting on and don’t block aisles for group photos or videos. Large accessories should also be kept manageable – particularly in crowded coaches.
To ensure that a participant has their Touch ‘n Go card or other accepted fare method with them before arriving at the gates. Regular train trips aren’t free rides when you participate in Keretapi Sarong.
Traditional clothing is encouraged but shoes and clothing should be comfortabil for walking, escalators, stairs and possibly extended periods of standing.
