President Rodrigo Duterte has placed a ban on tourists from China’s Hubei province and from other Chinese areas affected by the novel coronavirus (nCoV)

Panelo released the statement a day after the Health Department (DOH) announced the country’s first nCoV event— a 38-year-old woman from Wuhan City, China. Wuhan is a town in province Hubei.

Less than a day after the announcement by the DOH, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared global emergency over nCov because of the virus ‘ potential to spread to countries with poorer health care systems.

Panelo said Duterte has instructed the DOH to launch the protocols that it has prepared to contain the disease and prevent it from transmitting.

Panelo told the public that the infected patient is being treated and confined to isolation in the Philippines.

Panelo said the DOH has provided assurance that every step to control the spread of the virus is being taken.
