KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has accused his successor and former mentor Dr Mahathir Mohamad for not telling the truth on the real reason of his resignation as the prime minister.
Najib said in a Facebook post claimed that Mahathir had other reasons why left his post and not merely because of him and his party UMNO.
According to Najib, Mahathir does not really want Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be his successor, he does not want DAP and PKR controlling him and he was afraid that Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan would lose in the 15th general election.
Najib’s statement came after Dr Mahathir claimed that he was forced to resign from his post because he did not want to be the prime minister that will work with UMNO.
The Pekan MP alleged Mahathir did not inform his allies in Pakatan Harapan about his resignation. He sent his resignation letter at 1pm. Bersatu announced its leaving the Pakatan Harapan at 2pm.
Najib further stated that Dr Mahathir only started to put blame on others after the King had announced Muhyiddin to be the next prime minister. The unity goverment he created meant that Dr Mahathir no longer had to worry about passing the torch to Anwar and losing the election since Barisan Nasional (BN)/Muafakat Nasional (MN) would be part of his government. “Can you be honest? Just admit your true plans. Why do keep blaming me?” Najib added.
