Non-contact sports allowed in GCQ

MANILA – The government through the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases has allowed non-contact sports such as tennis, golf, biking and outdoor exercise in areas under  general community quarantine (GCQ).

According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, the only sports with physical distancing can be observed will be permitted un GCQ.

“..Sports that are authorized now are non-contact sports like biking, tennis, and golf because they can distance themselves from each other,” Lorenzana said.

Contact sports such as boxing, Martial arts wrestling, and basketball, volleyball etc will stay prohibited under GCQ until the situation improves.

Under the guidelines approved by the President, limited outdoor exercise such as walking, jogging, biking with safety protocols such as social distancing and wearing mask will be allowed under a modified ECQ (MECQ) and GCQ.

Gyms, fitness studios, and sport facilities will remain close until further notice. Metro Manila, Laguna province, and Cebu City, classified as areas at high risk of Covid-19 infection and currently being placed under MECQ from May 16 to May 31.
