Denpasar is Indonesia’s new tourist hotspot, and for those arriving this week, there’s an important administrative task to complete. Since May 2024, all foreign tourists must be charged a compulsory fee of IDR 150,000 (approx. USD 10) per person. In the meantime, though, a proliferation of illegal websites has prompted the provincial government to send a dire message: travellers may only use the official channels associated with the Bali tourist levy, as any other is considered unsafe. In particular, the government-backed ‘Love Bali’ website is the only certain method to stay away from hidden fees and possible data breaches.
The fee is part of a larger effort to maintain the island’s unique cultural heritage and to enhance infrastructure. It’s not a large sum of money, but the way in which it’s paid has become a convenient target for third-party agents. These “middleman” sites also typically duplicate the actual price under the name of “convenience fees” and may charge double or triple the amount.
Using the official Bali tourist levy system directly means you are making the funds available 100% to the Bali Provincial Government‘s conservation funds. The system is meant to be fast, but it’s only secure if it’s accessed via the appropriate digital entryway.
The ‘Love Bali’ app was created to make the entry process easier for millions of people who enter the country. It is the benchmark of Indonesia travel tax compliance since its launch. The app or official website will keep you safe from phishing attempts, which are common on search engine ads.
You will get an instant “Levy Voucher” (digital form) in your email when you pay through the app. This QR code will be scanned during the immigration process at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Often, these vouchers are not sent from a third-party site, which can create a huge bottleneck at the terminal.
In addition to Indonesia travel tax compliance, the ‘Love Bali’ platform offers information about the cultural aspects and environmental initiatives that are being supported by your travel tax. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy says this openness is essential to ensure Bali remains a world-class and sustainable tourist destination.

The Official Love Bali Website provides the same secure infrastructure for people who prefer to use their desktops. This should be done at least 24 hours prior to arrival to make sure that the data is synchronized with the local servers of the airport in Indonesia.
No. The fee of IDR 150,000 is for foreign tourists only. This requirement does not apply to Indonesians and permanent residents.
It is encouraged to pay online for convenience, but there are counters available at the airport for payments. But these typically have long lines during peak hours.
The voucher is good for one time only. In the event that you leave Indonesia and come back to Bali later in your trip, you will have to complete the Indonesia travel tax compliance obligations once more.
