Royal Secrets Wellness, a well-known spa in Singapore’s Orchard area, closed suddenly, leaving hundreds of customers with financial losses. The shutdown has sparked anger and demands for stronger consumer protections.
On February 28, 2026, Royal Secrets Wellness at Winsland House on Killiney Road announced its immediate closure on Facebook. The spa had been operating since 1997. They called it an “incredibly difficult decision” and said they would partner with other providers to transfer packages on a “goodwill” basis only. Customers came in large numbers seeking answers, but they found locked doors and no refunds.
The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) reported 137 complaints, with total customer losses exceeding S$1,045,000 as of March 23, 2026. More than 50% of the victims are aged 46 and older, averaging S$6,000 per person. One person lost S$50,000. Allegations suggest the spa took prepayments until it closed, even though it knew trouble was coming.
Case president Melvin Yong urged consumers to buy from CaseTrust-accredited businesses that offer insurance for prepayments. Authorities are investigating the prepayment practices, and there are discussions about requiring cooling-off periods for wellness packages. Reports indicate that staff are waiting for unpaid wages, which adds to the fallout.
This incident shows the risks of prepaid spa deals. Choose insured providers and smaller packages to reduce exposure. The situation emphasizes Singapore’s effort for stricter regulations in the S$1B+ beauty industry.
The spa cited an “incredibly difficult decision” on Facebook but gave no specific reasons like financial woes. Customers allege prepayments continued despite closure plans.
Over S$1M total; 137 CASE complaints, half victims 46+, avg S$6K loss, max S$50K. Many had unused packages worth thousands.
Choose CaseTrust-accredited spots with prepayment insurance. Avoid large upfront payments; consider pay-per-visit options.
