The international ‘Sound of Music’ tour is coming to Manila

The international tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music will arrive in Manila next year, providing a treat for theatergoers.

The performance will run from March 7 to March 26, 2023 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit, Makati under the direction of Broadway International Group. Tickets have not yet been announced as of this publishing.

The Sound of Music, one of the most successful Broadway musicals, debuted on Broadway in 1959. It was composed by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay, and Russel Crouse.

It has received five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Show Album for its initial run since its debut. It has also been memorialized in a film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer that won an Oscar.

The musical is set during the Nazi occupation of Austria and chronicles the story of Maria, a young novice who is ordered to become the governess to Captain Von Trapp’s seven wayward children. According to the narrative, the two fall in love and, as a family, migrate to Switzerland to escape the Nazis.

Jill Christine-Wiley as Maria Rainer and Trevor Martin as Captain von Trapp lead the globe tour. Daniel Fullerton, Lauren Kidwell, Joshua La Force, Lauren O’Brien, and Annie Sherman round out the cast.

Alli Atkenson, Corey Bryant, Patrick Cogan, Julia Anne Cohen, Sydney DeMaria, Maddie Eaton, Keaton Eckhoff, Corey Greenan, Dayne Joyner, Cassi Mikat, Marissa O’Donnell, Caitlin Ort, Sabina Petra, Robert Rice, Julia Salatti, Cassidy Sledge, and Sean Thompson are members of the organization.

The show is also making stops in India, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, in addition to the Philippines.
