In life, things can go haywire, and unexpected financial crises can arise when least expected. From unexpected medical bills to a sudden car breakdown to a short-term cash flow shortage, having quick access to cash is essential. Fortunately, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), or Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) in the local language, offers a financial security blanket for these very moments, thanks to its revamped account structure.
As per the existing system, the monthly contributions of members under 55 years old are automatically made into the three accounts, namely Akaun Persaraan (Account 1), Akaun Sejahtera (Account 2) and Akaun Fleksibel (Account 3), with 75% of the monthly contribution going to Akaun Persaraan, 15% to Akaun Sejahtera and 10% to Akaun Fleksibel.
Akaun Fleksibel is tailored to tackle the problem of short-term liquidity, enabling you to tap into emergency funds easily. When you require money, here are the top 3 steps to transfer and withdraw money from your Malaysia EPF Account 3 today.
1. Verify Your Eligibility and Account 3 Balance
Before initiating a transaction, you must confirm that your profile aligns with the standard operational guidelines set by KWSP.
Akaun Fleksibel Baseline Requirements
├── Age Limit: Must be an active member below 55 years old
├── Minimum Threshold: Withdrawal amount must be at least RM50
└── Frequency: Limited to one automated withdrawal transaction per day
To view the amount of money you have, you can login to your mobile app for KWSP i-Akaun or the official KWSP Member Portal. Your dashboard will show you the instant breakdown of your balances in all 3 accounts. Keep in mind that 10% of your monthly salary directly goes to your Akaun Fleksibel that you use to build your available cash pool.
2. Execute the Electronic Withdrawal Process via i-Akaun
The easiest way to pull funds from your account is through the digital platform. This method eliminates the hassle of physical paperwork and long branch queues.
1. Navigate to the Withdrawal Module: Step 1.
Open your official KWSP i-Akaun mobile app, tap on the “Withdrawal” tab located at the bottom navigation bar, and select “Withdraw your savings”.
2. Select Akaun Fleksibel and Set Your Amount: Step 2.
Choose “Akaun Fleksibel” from the available options. Enter the exact cash amount you need to withdraw (ensuring it is a minimum of RM50), then tap “Continue”.
3. Input Secure Bank Credentials and Verify Your Identity: Step 3.
Give or verify personal bank account information. The bank account has to be fully functional, and it cannot be a joint or corporate account, otherwise it will not be accepted. Read and sign the Member’s Declaration, ask for the Transaction Authorization Code (TAC), and then submit the declaration.
3. Complete Identity Verification and Await Bank Crediting
Once your digital application is submitted, the system automatically runs your profile through electronic verification protocols.
Understanding e-KYC and Thumbprint Rules
Please be aware that if your withdrawal exceeds RM250, you might be prompted to complete an online e-KYC verification process (facial recognition scanning) within the app for safety and security purposes.
Important Notice: If your requested amount exceeds RM30,000, if you have no prior withdrawal record with KWSP, or if your updated bank account details do not match historical records, you will be required to visit the nearest physical KWSP office or Self-Service Terminal (SST) for standard thumbprint verification.
Processing and Payout Timelines
Operational Rules, as outlined on the KWSP Account Restructuring Portal, authorize the transfer of approved Emergency funds directly into your personal bank account. The processing time for this transfer is between 7 working days, depending on your bank’s clearance time.
FAQs
Can I transfer funds back into Account 1 or 2 if I do not use the money?
Yes, you are allowed to transfer funds from Akaun Fleksibel (Account 3) to Akaun Sejahtera (Account 2) or Akaun Persaraan (Account 1). Note however, that this fund transfer cannot be reversed. Any money transferred to retirement accounts (Account 3) can’t be withdrawn from that account and taken out of retirement accounts.
Can non-Malaysian citizens utilize Akaun Fleksibel withdrawals?
Yes, expatriates and non-Malaysian citizens who contribute into the fund are allowed to withdraw from the fund. They can make maximum transactions of RM3,000 digitally through the app, though. Any sum over this amount will need a manual application at a physical branch.
