The Philippines is regularly struck by severe flooding and damage to infrastructure due to severe monsoon rains (Habagat) and seasonal typhoons. The Social Security System (SSS) is providing financial aid for affected workers to aid in their recovery. For those who are questioning about the SSS emergency loan after Habagat, knowing who is eligible and the critical eligibility criteria will make for a smooth digital application.

What Is the SSS Emergency and Calamity Loan Program?

The SSS relief facilities are created to provide financial aid to members in areas affected by storms, such as the SSS emergency loan, and the SSS calamity loan program. These temporary loans help pay for damage repairs, medical bills and living expenses after a major natural disaster.

Members who are eligible to borrow may borrow up to 1 monthly salary credit (MSC) or the average of the MSC posted in the last 12 months. The interest rate on the loan is very competitive for borrowers – 7% per annum – and the payment period is extended.

Who Can Apply for the SSS Emergency Loan After Habagat?

Not all members will automatically qualify for borrowing after a storm event. The Social Security System has explicit criteria to direct relief to those who are contributing and are still active in areas being affected.

1. State of Calamity Requirement

Your registered address in SSS records or your employer’s address must be within a town or city officially declared by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) or local government unit under a State of Calamity.

2. Contribution Requirements

  • You must have at least 36 monthly posted contributions, with 6 posted within the last 12 months prior to applying.
  • Self-employed, voluntary, and OFW members must have at least 6 posted contributions under their current coverage type.

3. Additional Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be under 65 years of age at the time of filing.
  • Must have no past-due SSS loans or outstanding loan restructurings.
  • Must not have claimed final SSS benefits (such as total permanent disability or retirement).
  • Must have an active My.SSS online account and an enrolled disbursement bank account.
