Vance’s remarks were probably the best when they came straight from his lips. Foreign policy was missing, even though the current Iran conflict was a possible thorn in the side of Republicans and of Vance as well.
Vance, however, referenced conservative activist Charlie Kirk, whose assassination anniversary fell during the convention, and implored voters to not desert the GOP over policy differences. 2026 Midterms Remain the Immediate Test
Body language was repeatedly directed toward the congressional elections coming up later in the month, in November. There was a Republican argument on Tuesday that they cannot afford to wait until they have the White House and Congress that they wish to have, before they are interested in the next presidential race.
That is what is happening. With talk cropping up about 2028, Vance can’t be seen to be more focused on succession than on delivering results for Trump and Republican candidates in 2026. The convention was basically to mobilize voters and bolster the party as it headed into the mid-terms.
