The Changi Airport Terminal 5, which is scheduled to be finished in Singapore by next year, will revolutionize the ways people move around the airport with two major MRT extensions. The Changi T5 MRT project will connect the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and Cross Island Line (CRL), providing more convenient routes for passengers to move around Singapore. The development is designed to help to minimize the use of road transport, whilst enhancing access to the growing facilities at the airport.

Changi T5 MRT Interchange Connects Two Major Lines

The future station at Changi Terminal 5 (TE32/CR1) will be a terminus station linking the Thomson-East Coast Line and Cross Island Line. The interchange will offer direct links to central Singapore and other key areas, making travel easier for exit and entry passengers and airport staff at the airport, the Land Transport Authority said.

Thomson-East Coast Line Extension to Changi Airport

The extension along Thomson-East Coast Line will provide an additional 14 kilometres of track joining Sungei Bedok to Terminal 5 and then heading towards Tanah Merah. The existing airport rail stations will be connected to the TEL network. The passengers may also one day be able to change lines between Changi and Orchard, Maxwell and Gardens by the Bay as part of the project.

Cross Island Line Extension Improves Regional Access

The extension of the Cross Island Line will be extended from Terminal 5 to Aviation Park and then to neighbourhoods such as Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Punggol and Clementi. The LTA’s Cross Island Line overview is an overview of the development of the Cross Island Line, a system of rail lines that will provide extra east-west rail connectivity across Singapore.

Changi Terminal 5 Opening and Transport Facilities

The first phase of Terminal 5 will be capable of handling about 50 million passengers per year, and is expected to open in the mid-2030s. The Changi Airport Group states it has confirmed plans for the ground transportation centre, which will link to MRT services, buses and taxis, as well as the terminal, while for integrated airport operations, it says the group members will showcase a new terminal at the Changi International Airport.
