The tech world is changing fast, and AI (Artificial Intelligence) is at the center of it. Recently, Atlassian, an Australian software company known for tools like Jira and Trello, announced it will cut 150 jobs. These jobs were mostly in customer support, where AI will now handle tasks like answering questions and solving common problems.
The news came in a pre-recorded video sent by Atlassian’s CEO, Mike Cannon-Brookes. Many workers were upset because they were not told earlier. Their work laptops were even blocked just minutes after the message.
On the same day, Atlassian’s co-founder Scott Farquhar gave a speech about how AI is the future. He said people need to “move on from old jobs” and learn new skills. He also believes that governments should help workers adjust to these changes.
Atlassian says they are not cutting jobs just to reduce costs. They want to focus more on automation and AI-driven work. They will hire new employees in AI engineering and product teams.
This situation is not only happening in Australia. Big companies in ASEAN countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia are also investing heavily in AI. This means some jobs will go, but new types of jobs will also come. For workers, this is a wake-up call. AI is not just a distant future — it is happening now. We need to think about reskilling and staying updated with technology.
