Banten is one of the most popular destinations columned by visitors as they are looking for a less crowded and more cultural place other than a crowded city to visit in Indonesia this month.
May 2026 ranks among the top months of the year for hiking the Baduy region, as the rain is slowly fading, but the forests and hiking trails are still green and beautiful. The village roads are becoming more accessible, while still having great nature to enjoy as people warm up to the state.
This influx of interest has even picked up since some of the more popular Baduy villages were capped on their visitor totals, thereby promoting stays in less well-known “hidden gem” Baduy areas.
Cijahe is becoming popular among travelers looking for a less time consuming and easier Baduy trekking. Cibiahe is much easier to reach for premises in the Inner Baduy territory from it, as opposed to the longer routes by way of Ciboleger.
The road works completed recently in early 2026 have improved the road if you were looking to come down from Jakarta and other neighbouring cities during the weekends. It is just about an hour on the trek itself and is suitable for those who do not have a lot of time, but still want to be able to experience the tradition of the Baduy.
Cikertawana Village is sometimes said to be one of the quietest and traditional villages in the Inner Baduy region. But instead of many visitors going straight to the more popular Cibeo village, the quiet Cikertawana is relatively yet more underrated.
The village still maintains native traditions and Baduy ways such as limiting the use of electricity, modern technology, chemical products, etc. People here enjoy an idyllic relation with nature and spiritual balance, spending their time in leisure.
With fewer visitors, some travellers visit Cikertawana for a more meaningful cultural experience, rather than social media tourism.
The Leuwidamar Bridge is not only famous for its bamboo construction but also for the breathtaking views of the river it offers, making it a popular spot for photographers and tourists alike.
Reconstructed in March 2026, the bridge relates to architecture, local diy work and photos interested visitors visit the place using the traditional ways of Baduy people to create the bridge. May is a pretty good month to cross the river as it is fairly settled with so I would suggest it is a particularly lovely time to come during the morning and late afternoon.
Among the most popular places to visit in May 2026 are places like Dungkuk Hill, which is perfect for photography enthusiasts and hikers. During the early season, the weather is anticipated to be drier with mesmerizing scenes of setting sun above the Baduy forest scene.
People start their journey early in the morning to see the “mist-covered forest” view that recently has taken the social media world by storm. The trail is classified as a “moderate” trail and offers visitors panoramic views rarely found in more touristy tourist locations in Indonesia.
Seasonal Baduy honey harvest makes Karang Nunggal the next thing to be discussed this month. May is a good time for harvesting the traditional natural product of the region, the “Madu Baduy.”
Instructs visitors to see how locals harvest the honey to learn about the importance of the same commodity for the Baduy culture and trade. Lots of travelers also add on a culinary tour of the use of local ingredients and the traditional coiling preparation of food in the village.
Karang Nunggal is more of a cultural excursion than the trekker areas, thanks to its gentler nature and family-friendly atmosphere.

People coming to Baduy region should be ready for a lack of modern facilities especially technologically, in Inner Baduy regions which don’t have electricity and technical facilities. Lightweight clothes are highly recommended, as are comfortable trekking shoes because there are still a lot of trekking legs.
The visitors are also asked to respect the local customs such as the prohibition of photography in some places and cleanliness in the environment. None were aware of how to travel the region responsibly, nor of the Baduy traditions until they hired local guides.
For overnight stays near Baduy territory, planning of accommodations during the month of May is highly recommended as it is a busy month for domestic travel.
One of the best months is May 2026 when the weather is in the drying season, yet the forests are still greener and greener.
Cikertawana village is regarded as a village with less noise, but still maintaining Inner Baduy traditional culture.
The traditional building materials of the Leuwidamar Bridge are people’s bamboo materials and the beautiful views of the river.
