At the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal, which took place on Tuesday, December 27th, the psychological thriller Deleter, which is about the hardships of being a content moderator, was the undisputed winner.
The film directed by Mikhail Red took home seven honors, including those for Best Picture and Best Director, as well as the award for Best Actress, which went to Nadine Lustre.
In the category of Best Actress, Lustre prevailed over her competitors Heaven Peralejo of Nanahimik Ang Gabi, Ivana Alawi of Partners in Crime, and Toni Gonzaga of My Teacher. Lustre made her return to the big screen with the film Deleter.
“Masaya kaming lahat na bumabalik ang pelikulang Pilipino (We’re all thrilled that Filipino films are back),” she remarked in her victory speech.
In the meanwhile, Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told and Nanahimik Ang Gabi were recognized as being, respectively, the second and third best pictures.
The story of Deleter centers on Lyra, a content moderator who has, on the surface at least, become immune to the horrors of her profession, which consists of removing unpleasant videos from various social media sites. Her daily routine will be disrupted, however, when she becomes embroiled in an inquiry into the unsolved murder of one of her coworkers, a tragedy that appears to be haunting her more and more.
In addition to her, the cast includes McCoy de Leon, Louise delos Reyes, and Jeffrey Hidalgo.
