MANILA – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar on Wednesday confirmed that he has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

In a Facebook post, Villar reveals that he has received his test results and it came back as Covid-19 positive. The announcement was made a day after he was designated as the government’s isolation czar. He will be in charge of the country’s quarantine facilities.

Since the outbreak, the government agency has converted dozens of public buildings into quarantine buildings in an effort to support the health care facilities of the country  amid the continued rise in coronavirus infections.

The DPWH Secretary in March underwent self-isolation after being exposed to a covid-19 positive person and was later tested negative for the virus. Villar is the latest government cabinet member to be infected by the virus. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año and Education Secretary Leonor Briones also tested positive of the virus and has since recovered.
