GPS Chairman unaware of meeting between Agong and top political party leaders

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that he has no knowledge that Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the top political party leaders will be holding a meeting this week. Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Abang Johari responded that he was unaware of the meeting when reporters asked him to comment on the alleged meeting following the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 6.0) Food Aid Distribution symbolic ceremony at the Darul Ehsan Mosque in Kampung Haji Baki.

It has been said that the a meeting will be held between Al-Sultan Abdullah and the top political leaders as he hopes to personally hear the leader’s opinions on the worsening Covid-19 situation even with the declaration of Emergency in January.

Some of the parties have given confirmation that a meeting will be held and that it will be in batches starting from Wednesday to Friday of this week. However, no formal invitation has been issued to them yet.

A broadsheet newspaper based in Singapore also reported that the nine royal household heads of Malaysia will be holding an alleged emergency meeting next week to talk about the current Covid-19 situation as well as the nation’s state of Emergency.

The report, while referring to an anonymous senior political and royal household sources, said that the meeting will be held on June 16 to be headed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after a number of meetings with the top political leaders have been previously reported by several media outlet.

The meeting of the Malay rulers will be held at Istana Negara after lunch according to Royal household sources.

As the Covid-19 crisis keeps on worsening and as there have been increasing demands to put an end to the state of emergency, it has been decided for a meeting to be held. A royal household source said that this is not going to be a Conference of Rulers session but a special emergency meeting.
