A Singaporean man who was free on bail when he was caught in Bangkok earlier this month had skipped out on court proceedings in Singapore in September 2022. The guy was arrested in Bangkok earlier this month.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) stated on Saturday (Jan 21) in response to questions posed by CNA that he then reportedly departed Singapore in an unauthorized manner.

According to reports, a 32-year-old man named Ong Jian Zhen hacked into the personal social media accounts of other people in order to make online purchases.

On October 8, 2021, he was charged with his role in a case of cheating, and his passport was seized as a result of the incident. About a week after his arrest, Ong was freed after posting bond.

According to the police, he was scheduled to appear in court again on September 8, 2022 for a pre-trial hearing addressing his cheating and different drug-related offenses. This was to take place a year later.

However, he did not appear in court, so the judge decided to issue a warrant for his arrest the next day.

According to SPF, “Ong is thought to have unlawfully fled Singapore,” and the agency said that investigations are still underway.

They claimed that they have information on Ong’s arrest in Thailand in November 2022 for “immigration offenses.”

The Thai media report that Ong was detained for entering the country with a fraudulent passport, freed on bond, and then fled the country once more after failing to appear in court.

On Saturday, the police in Singapore issued a statement saying that they have been collaborating with the authorities in Thailand over their ongoing investigations into Ong.

In addition, SPF stated that they had been seeking for Ong in order to assist with investigations about other instances. These were not given specific names.

Ong and a Thai lady called Ananyalak Chuenjai, who is 28 years old and was also detained, were reportedly taken into custody on January 12 at a condominium in the Huai Kwang neighborhood of Bangkok, according to a report that appeared in the Bangkok Post.

Crystal methamphetamine, ketamine, and Erimin-5 were among the illicit substances that the Thai police discovered in the condo unit during their investigation.
