Malaysian researcher Dr Chan Yoke-Fun has been named as part of the ten finalist for the 2020 ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women.

The award recognized early- to mid-career female scientists for their academic and professional achievements. It aims to strengthen the science and technology capacity in Southeast Asian countries while promoting gender equality.

The prize will be given by the United States Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and will be in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

Dr Chan’s video on her work in preventive healthcare and nomination was shared by the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur. She will be going up against nine other finalists for the top prize. Two finalists will be receiving USD20,000 (RM86,900) and another will receive an honourable mention and USD5,000 (RM20,700).
