Malaysia’s Female Mobile Legends team for SEA Games is revealed

The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Esports Selection Committee has announced the female Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team that will compete in the upcoming 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

The inaugural SEA Games will feature a women’s gaming competition.

The women’s division selection procedure followed a similar approach to that of the open category, with 18 teams competing in closed qualifications for the chance to represent Malaysia.

The 32nd Southeast Asian Games will be televised on Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Malaysia and MPL Malaysia’s livestreaming platforms, respectively. The MLBB Women’s Category will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, between 10 and 12 May 2023, with an Open Category for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang taking place between 12 and 14 May.

“We are happy to see the addition of a women’s esports category to the SEA Games Cambodia 2023. As a nation, we are tirelessly fighting to empower and integrate more female athletes in esports. Our participation in the MLBB Women’s category is a clear indicator of Malaysia’s determination to offer possibilities for women in the esports sphere,” according to Andrew Cheong, Team Manager of Malaysia’s esports presence at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games Cambodia 2023.

“This is consistent with the goal of YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, who has been a prominent proponent of women’s empowerment. We hope our participation in the women’s division will encourage more women to pursue their aspirations and thrive in esports.”
