MANILA – The Philippine government are currently in talks with the new potential proponents for the PHP102-billion redevelopment and rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The NAIA consortium sent a letter to Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on Wednesday, informing him that the current situation and lack of resources to push through with the project due to the coronavirus pandemic impact in the country.
During a virtual pre-State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) briefing, Dominguez said DOTr (Department of Transportation) under Secretary (Arthur) Tugade and Bases Conversion and Development Authority President Vince Dizon are in conversation with two or more potential proponents of the NAIA project.
Despite the with recent setbanks, the Finance Secretary is confident that the rehabilitation project will come into friution given that two new possible implementors have agreed to discuss the project with the government.
According to Domiguez, the potential proponent are willing to agree the proponents and are open to accept term which is similar to the projects in the Clark Airport and the BCDA. The NAIA rehabilitation and redevelopment project is a 15-year period program with the aim of increasing its capacity from the current 30.5 million annual passengers to 47M in two years and 65M passengers in four years.
