The mayor of New York believes there is “no place” for migrants in his city

On Sunday, January 15, the mayor of New York flew to the Mexican border city of El Paso and proclaimed, “There is no place in New York” for busloads of migrants being delivered to the most populous city in the United States.

Eric Adams, a Democrat, was likewise critical of the administration of Democratic US President Joe Biden, stating that “now is the moment for the federal government to do its duty” about the immigrant problem at the southern border of the United States.

Unprecedented is the travel of a New York mayor to a southern border city to discuss the subject of immigration.

Republican-controlled states have sent busloads of migrants to New York and other cities in the north. This has exacerbated New York’s housing issue and the city’s homelessness catastrophe.

Adams’s journey to El Paso follows his statement that the flood of migrants into New York might cost the city up to $2 billion, at a time when the city is already suffering a significant fiscal deficit.

In recent months, the Republican governors of Florida and Texas have dispatched thousands of asylum-seeking migrants to Democratic-controlled cities such as New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
