According to Digital 2023, the yearly analysis by Meltwater and We Are Social on global social media and digital trends, the Philippines currently ranks fourth in terms of time spent on social media.

According to the survey, while the global average time spent on social media by users aged 16-64 is 2 hours and 31 minutes per day, Philippine internet users spend 3 hours and 43 minutes per day on social media.

Nigeria, which spends an average of 4 hours and 36 minutes a day on social media, surpasses the Philippines’ average by a large margin. South Africa (3 hours, 44 minutes) and Brazil (3 hours, 46 minutes) placed second and third, respectively, in the race.

Meltwater and We Are Social also examined time spent on other digital trends in their analysis. They discovered that 95.8% of 16-to-64-year-old internet users in the Philippines played video games on any device, ranking them #1 in this category.

In comparison, the global average is 81.9%, while the next closest nation in terms of proportion, Indonesia, with 94.8% of users aged 16 to 64 playing games on their mobile devices.

Despite this, Saudi Arabians spend the most time playing video games, almost 1 hour and 58 minutes each day on average. The Philippines ranks sixth in this category, with an average daily time spent of 1 hour and 29 minutes. Thailand (1 hour, 43 minutes), India (1 hour, 41 minutes), and Egypt (1 hour, 34 minutes) come in second, third, and fourth, respectively, in this lineup.

Compared to the global average of 11.9%, 23.4% of Filipino internet users possess some type of cryptocurrency, according to a research.

In this regard, the Philippines is the third-highest country in the world, after Turkey (27.1%) and Argentina (23.5%), and higher than the global average of 11.9%.

According to the research, 97.9% of 16-to-64-year-old internet users in the Philippines view TV material via streaming services such as Netflix each month. Mexico is a close second, with 97.7% of its internet users in the same age group performing the same activity, compared to the global average of 90.9%.

Filipinos are also avid vlog viewers, ranking top in the world in terms of vlog consumption, with 55.6% of internet users aged 16 to 64 in the Philippines viewing vlogs everyday.

64% of them watch how-to videos, tutorials, or instructional films regularly, making them the top video watchers when it comes to using internet videos as a source of learning.

The percentage of Filipino internet users that listen to music via streaming services weekly ranks fifth, after Brazil (50.3%), Indonesia (50.3%), Mexico (49.5%), and Norway (48.2%).
