The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, through the School Transport Management Unit (UP Angkutan Sekolah), is deploying school buses to accommodate the passengers of commuter line (KRL) that have been displaced at a number of stations.

As many as 50 school buses were deployed to transport KRL passengers during the Transitional Large-scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). With the implementation of physical distancing, the number of train passengers is limited to 50 percent.

“We deploy 50 units of buses to anticipate a surge in passengers at KRL stations,”

Ali Murthado

Head of the DKI Jakarta School Transport Management Unit, Ali Murthado said, the school bus operational mechanism will be alerted at five main stations, including Juanda Station, Sudirman Station, Tanah Abang Station, Manggarai Station, and Tebet Station.

“We deploy 50 units of buses to anticipate a surge in passengers at KRL stations,” Ali Murthado said in Jakarta, Friday, June 12.

“In the future, there will be ten bus units at each station that will deliver to a number of destinations in Jabodetabek,” he said as quoted by Antara on Saturday, June 13.

These include Bogor Baranangsiang Terminal, Depok Terminal, Bekasi Terminal, BSD Tangerang Modern Market and Bintaro Exchange.

Passengers who are displaced then accommodated by school bus transportation to the destination location for free.

Ali explained that his party mobilized 100 crew members, 20 field officers, and 10 State Civil Apparatuses (ASN) to ensure that the service ran well.

“Each school bus is manned by two officers. The bus operates from 16:30 to 18:45,” he said as quoted by BeritaJakarta.com.

The DKI Jakarta School Transport Management Unit pays special attention to bus drivers who will be involved in carrying out the duty of escorting passengers.

“School fleet crews must be guaranteed to be sterile, of course with the help of supervision from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the Health Office,” Ali explained.

The 50 school buses that are deployed have been sterilized by disinfectants at Hek TMII. The drivers are also checking their health on a periodic basis to ensure their fitness condition while on duty.
