Witness claims to have met with Bung Moktar’s wife to negotiate a RM150m investment in Felcra unit trusts

Malaysia – When asked about her meeting with Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, a unit trust consultant told the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur that she had discussed investment in Public Mutual Berhad’s unit trust with them.

It was organized by Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar’s friend Nik Juliana, who is also a friend of Zizie Izette. The meeting took place at a hotel in early 2014 and was also attended by another investment agent, Madhi Abdul Hamid.

When asked about her 10-minute conversation with Bung Moktar, the 25th prosecution witness said that she only had enough time to brief him about the suggested investment for Felcra, which she claimed may provide a higher return than a fixed deposit.

Moreover, when she was questioned about the Public Mutual unit trust investment proposal during the examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Sophian Zakaria at the corruption trial of Bung Moktar and his wife Zizie Izette before Judge Rozina Ayob, she stated, “I did not have enough time to introduce the Public Mutual unit trust investment proposal.”

When asked by Mohd Sophian what Bung Moktar’s answer was after she discussed the investment plan, she said, “At that time, there was no response since Datuk was rushing to conduct the Zohor prayer,” which means “the night prayer.”

According to Norhaili, she expressed her desire to get Bung Moktar’s reply to Zizie Izette, to which the actress responded by saying, “I’ll try.”

According to the witness, she was not sure how long the duration of their encounter with Zizie Izette was since it was during business hours and they had another appointment that they didn’t even get to drink anything.

As a result of the meeting, Norhaili said that she called Nik Juliana to seek for her assistance in setting up another meeting with Bung Moktar so that she could offer the proposition. She said that she has contacted Nik Juliana to ‘proceed’ with Datuk Seri Bung Moktar in order to schedule another meeting with Datin Seri Zizie Izette, adding that she got to know Zizie Izette via Nik Juliana in 2013.
