Adar Poonawalla RCB bid

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla confirmed on January 22, 2026, his intent to submit a “strong and competitive” bid for a stake in IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the 2025 champions owned by Diageo via United Spirits. In a X-post, the pharma magnate already investing in Dharma Productions indicated that it was something serious when it was reported that there was a possible sale of the company at 2 billion dollars. The move by Poonawala comes after his tweet in October 2025 which alludes to the fact that at the right price, RCB is a great team making him a favourite. The acquisition would remake the ownership of the fan favorite franchise that is highly valued following the conclusion of an 18 year title dry-up. No financial information and timeline was revealed, but there are speculations that there will be partial or full acquisition in the next few months.

RCB Valuation and Sale Buzz

RCB aims at valuation of about 17, 500 crore (2 billion dollars) after the 2025 IPL and WPL. Diageo tries divestment and this is of interest to the investor.

Poonawalla’s Business Ventures

Having more than 20 billion net worth, Poonawala diversifies into sport and entertainment. The announcement is amplified by the fact that he has 1.3M X people who follow him.
