Bail Granted After the Arrest of Nine with Anon and Two Rappers Due to Rally Participation

The Criminal Court has approved bail applications for nine people, including lawyer Anon Nampa and two rappers, who were arrested in the July 18 and Aug 3 rallies during the past 20 hours for their roles. They were the guarantors of three Move Forward Party MPs, two Pheu Thai Party MPs and four academics.

Five more people, including two rappers, were arrested on Thursday in the latest crackdown on political demonstrators, bringing the total held in connection with the July 18 Free Youth rally to eight in the last 20 hours. Not all received summonses, and were held on arrest warrants approved by the court.

Dechathorn “Hockhacker” Bamrungmuang, a founder and member of RAP Against Dictatorship, was arrested outside his houses. In recent years Prathet Ku Mee of the band has become the anthem for anti-coup activities. Dechathorn had been taken by police in the presence of his wife and young son, according to Thai Lawyers for Human Rights. An hour later, he had arrested activist Tossaporn Sinsomboon at his home.

Tanee Sasom was caught in Soi Rang Nam and taken to police station. Nattawut Sasomsap was stopped while driving on the Expressway by more than 10 police. Thanayut “Book” Na Ayudhya was also taken by the police.

They admitted allegations, and in the afternoon they were sent to the Criminal Court when police tried to arrest them. It is suspected that their charges are identical to those faced by three persons held earlier — ranging from sedition to cleanliness law violations.
