Carla Abellana has opened up about her divorce from ex-husband Tom Rodriguez, confessing that she is still adjusting to being a divorced woman months after confirming their split.
“Dahil ang strange ng divorce and wala kasi sa atin, hindi pina-practice dito kaya parang hindi pa totally nagsi-sink in. Siguro, mas doon pa siya magsi-sink in sa akin kapag siguro dito na ‘yung naproseso at naasikaso at narecognize na siya ng Philippine court,” she remarked in an interview with Nelson Canlas of 24 Oras.
(Because divorce is unfamiliar to us and we don’t engage in it, it hasn’t truly sunk in yet. When our case has been handled and acknowledged by the Philippine court, I may be able to sense it.)
Tom, a citizen of the United States, stated in June that he was able to secure a divorce decision in the United States, where he presently resides. In order for the dissolution of their marriage to take effect in the Philippines, the ex-couple must file recognition of foreign divorce with a Philippine court.
In addition, the actress acknowledged that she is “certainly” still hurting because of what transpired in their relationship. “Without hesitating, I will respond ‘Yes, certainly’ Pain kasi doesn’t dissipate suddenly,” she remarked. “Even if you want the pain to go away, you have no power over it,” or “Even if you want the agony to go away, you have no control over it.”
Carla noted that it may take some time for her to recover from the heartbreak: “I wish I could say I’m pain-free, but I’m not. Nandiyan pa and matagal pa siyang proseso,” she remarked. (I do not wish to imply that the pain has subsided because this is not the case. (It’s there, but the procedure is still lengthy.)
She also admitted that she is not yet prepared to speak with her ex-husband if he attempts to reconcile with her, revealing that their last interaction was in February. “At this moment, parang hindi ko kakayanin (I don’t think I can manage it). If he calls, hindi ko kakayaning kausapin siya (I won’t be able to talk to him),” she said.
Carla stated that she cannot respond with a yes or no to the question of whether she still loves Tom, because “love does not vanish in an instant.”
Carla and Tom wed in October 2021 after dating since 2014. In February, just a few months after their wedding, when fans observed that they briefly unfollowed one other on Instagram, breakup rumors began to circulate. Carla also removed images of Tom from her Instagram account.
Carla disclosed her relationship with Tom in June, stating that she had been “hurt” and “betrayed.” Tom issued a statement days later announcing his divorce from Carla, stating that “despite all [his] efforts, Carla had already given up on [their] relationship.”
