China to cooperate with Asean on Covid-19 vaccine research

China is willing to collaborate with the Southeast Asian region in the research and development of vaccine for the COVID19, Chinese ambassador to Asean Deng Xi Jun confirmed on Saturday (June 13).

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, both sides shared multiple anti-pandemic cooperation pushing for regional consensus on a stronger collective response while boosting trade in the region.

The ambassador also said that China has always considered Asean as friendly neighbors that has the tradition of mutual support and help. This health crisis just shows the sound cooperation between the two in the fight against Covid-19.

China also sees the cooperation with Asean as a great potential in term of production and development of the vaccine. It is currently being developed in five categories – inactivated,  recombinant protein, live attenuated influenza, adenovirus and nucleic acid-based vaccines.

The diplomat added that currently, four inactivated and one adenovirus vaccine have been approved for clinical trials.

“China leads the world in certain technological approaches to the vaccines.” he added The ambassador reiterated that Covid-19 vaccine, once available in China will be made a global public good .
