DTI urged malls, commercial establishments to lower rents for vendors

METRO MANILA – Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez urged malls and commercial establishments to adjust and offer tenants who decided to reopen their stalls and outlets lower rates.

During the Pre-SONA Forum of the Economic and Infrastructure Cabinet Cluster, Lopez appealed to owners to make necessary considerations a alot of Vendors in malls have closed their outlets during the government imposed Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), modified ECQ.

Lopez said that if the mall cannot waive the rent, they should perhaps lower the rent especially those business who are just starting up.

DTI, On the other hand, continues to help SMEs to migrate to digital platform. A total of 517,000 attended seminars in cooperation with online marketplace platforms Lazada and Shopee.

There were reportedly more than 1,800 livelihood kits were given to the beneficiaries affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The P3 Program already lent out worth P7 billion to micro enterprises since its started.

The goverment is also pushing for the Negosyo Center  project to help support and give MSMEs business-related services. There are currently 1,130 Negosyo Centers and has helped 1.3 million MSMEs in their businesses. DTI’s shared service facilities (SSF) have also been installed to help 1,605 beneficiaries for products they can sell online.
