Hamzah: Finding Ways to Leave Pakatan is One Way to Strengthen the Party

Last updated on May 18th, 2021 at 06:08 am

Bersatu Secretary-General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin stated today that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had instructed him to improve the party by seeking ways to quit Pakatan Harapan (PH) and, among other steps, to erode people’s trust in DAP.

The former Umno man addressed questions on charges that he deliberately ruined Bersatu by arranging the Malay Integrity Congress despite being invited to join the group in February last year.

Sometimes there have been conversations on improving party cooperation and eroding people’s trust in DAP. He shared that he was doing my job at the request of the then Prime Minister at the point. Everything he did was the Congress for Dignity in Malaysia. He can’t possibly do that if I didn’t get the prime minister ‘s instructions.

In fact, there have been some more talks in Tun’s own home with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Peja (Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu) and Dr (Abdul) Latiff (Ahmad) to consider ways for Bersatu to leave Pakatan Harapan.

They did it all together before Tun resigned himself. In view of this, Hamzah, Larut MP, was joined by Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Datuk Dr Latiff Ahmad (Mersing), Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu), Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Sabak Bernam), Datuk Shahbudin Yahya (Tasik Gelugor) and Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah) at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya on 12 February 2019.

Hamzah said all leaders of Bersatu, including himself and party president Muhyiddin, were surprised by Dr Mahathir’s decision to withdraw from the group, claiming he did so without talking to them. He said all Bersatu MPs supported Dr. Mahathir to be the prime minister before last February’s Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and offered him the mandate to guide them.

Through this history has proven, however, that Dr Mahathir is not in favour of the proposal. It is not I who divides the party, but it is he who resigns and does not receive (majority) support (to be the prime minister).

Lastly, Hamzah also refuted the allegation that Muhyiddin had masterminded the February crisis, claiming God chose him to lead, and requested all members of Bersatu to help him.
