The Provincial Government or Pemprov of DKI Jakarta recorded an additional 1,114 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, 30 August in the Capital City.
Over the past week, there has been a significant upward trend in cases in Jakarta.
It is known that on August 28, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan extended the transition of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) for two weeks or 14 days.
The PDIP faction of the DKI Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council or DPRD said that the emergence of this cluster occurred because of the saturation of the community for having a vacation.
“The saturation of the people in the capital city has resulted in the residents of the capital to spend long weekends on vacation,” said the chairman of the PDIP faction of the DKI DPRD, Gembong Warsono on Sunday, August 30.
A different response came from the PKS faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, PKS considered that the problems faced by Jakarta today are the impact of a lack of discipline.
In the last two months, positive cases in Jakarta have increased. The cumulative number of COVID-19 positives passed through East Java on August 7. Jakarta is once again the province with the highest number of cases.
There were 7,094 new cases found in the fourth phase transition PSBB, 5,596 new cases in the third phase, and 3,493 new cases in the second phase. In the first phase, there were 4,125 new cases, but the transitional PSBB lasted almost four weeks from 5 June to 2 July.
According to data from DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office, 70% of positive cases on Sunday 30 August were cases that had specimens taken on August 24 and 25.
Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division Health Office DKI Jakarta, Dwi Oktavia, explained that the transmission was thought to have occurred in the span of August 16-22.
“If it is counted backwards, the incubation period usually occurs within 6 days, then the patient can do a PCR examination 1-2 days later, so the highest transmission period occurs on August 16-17,” Dwi said.
Dwi hopes, with the long weekend cluster there will be policies from the government in handling to break the chain of COVID-19.
Previously, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in DKI Jakarta broke records and has exceeded more than 1,100 cases per day. This is one of the causes of the long weekend cluster.
