More than 50 objections lodged against PKR party election candidates

Malaysia – Following voter objections, PKR party election committee chairman Zaliha Mustafa stated that a number of candidates for the key leadership, including the position of vice president, may not be able to run for the PKR election for the term 2022/2023.

According to a report, Zaliha claimed that the committee has obtained 50 non-official objections through the ADIL application so far.

She stated that the objections have been communicated to the concerned individuals.

“There are concerns about the ‘hot leadership position’ as well as the deputy president position. But, because we need to wait until the official objections date, we can’t tell on what basis the objections were raised,” she was reported as adding.

She noted that the formal objection period runs from April 14 to 16, however qualified voters can submit their concerns using the app as early as April 14.

According to her, the aggrieved candidates can also appeal, adding that they will open the appeal process from April 17 to 19 before publishing the final applicants list.

Each objection filing will cost RM50, according to Zaliha, and the complainant will be given a form to fill out.

She also said that some of the complaints against the candidates were based on their suspected involvement of the said candidates in criminal activity, alleged membership in other parties, as well as purported bankruptcy.

“We’ll go through the complaints and decide whether or not it’s appropriate.”

“If the objection is based on bankruptcy, the candidate must file an appeal and notify us if the bankruptcy has been lifted.”

Zaliha remarked that the complete list of candidates will be disclosed on April 19 and that the election will be held after Aidilfitri.

Former vice-president Rafizi Ramli and current secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail are running for the party’s deputy presidency.

The PKR vice-presidency is being contested by eighteen contestants.
