Next week, the new finance minister will be revealed, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha shared recently. He also put an end to rumors that the outgoing permanent finance secretary, Prasong Poontaneat, could be the next finance minister.
He said there would be a popular name for the new finance minister, but it wouldn’t be Mr Prasong. Gen Prayut said claims that Mr Prasong, Arkom Termpittayapaisith, the former transport minister, and Krairit Euchukanonchai were not right in running for the position. Mr Krairit is the Chairman of the Management Board of PTT Plc and Krungthai Bank.
Mr Prasong fuelled speculation that when he tendered his resignation last week, he could be in the race, a step seen by some as preparing to take a cabinet post. A new finance minister is required to fill the vacant seat left by Predee Daochai, the former president of Kasikornbank, who suddenly resigned after less than a month in office as finance minister.
Mr. Predee made a shock announcement that he was leaving the post of minister, citing disease as the reason where his resignation took effect. here are reports indicated that Mr. Predee and Deputy Minister of Finance Santi Promphat were at odds over filling top roles in ministry agencies.
