Taiwan has come as a surprise as one of the leading diving destinations in April 2026 and more so amongst the Singaporean tourists. The change is related to a significant presentation at the ADEX Ocean Festival Singapore, in which awe-inspiring underwater shots soon became viral.
Divers are making comparisons between Taiwan and Bali not only on the beauty level, but also on ease of travel. As Bali tightens its lock-in policies, involving financial checks, tourist levies, among others, Taiwan is increasingly appearing as an easier and more convenient alternative to spur-of-the-moment visits by those seeking to go on a dive trip.
The largest contributing factor to Taiwan’s rise is underwater invisibility which is occasionally termed as Liquid Glass. This trend has centred on such places as Green Island or Orchid Island.
With the Kuroshio Current, one can always have waters that are clean and are of deep blue sea flow. The visibility may extend to a distance of 40 meters giving divers an excellent view of coral reefs, school of fish and other submersible structures, which are not easily seen in other parts of Asia.
The center of the viral craze is the mythical Big Mushroom coral in the Green Island Shilang diving site. This large Porites coral reef is estimated to be more than 1,200 years old, therefore, it is one of the oldest marine structures in this area.
The coral is approximately 12 meters high, and 31 meters in length; it looks like a huge mushroom underneath the water. It survived and continues to prosper even after being overthrown by a typhoon in 2016. Nowadays it is the symbol of strength and a mandatory place of visit for marine and diving enthusiasts.
Outside the Big Mushroom, Taiwan has a host of distinctive diving experiences which compete with the most popular Bali destinations. At Steel Reef, there is an artificial underwater reef full of marine life, whereas Guishan Island provides an unusual underwater hot spring to resemble a surrealistically created milk sea.
In the meantime, Xiao Liuqiu is known to assure green sea turtle sightseeing, thus it is popular with newcomers and underwater photographers. Such locations are literally being compared with Bali Nusa Penida and Liberty Wreck but with better water clarity and a smaller number of visitors.
It is not only visuals, but convenience in terms of a shift towards Taiwan. Taiwan has an English friendly arrival, convenient transportation facilities and fairly easy visa processes. This is unlike the new 2026 regulation in Bali, whereby it has proof of money and strict entry conditions.
Another key factor is cost. Surprisingly enough, diving in Taiwan can be very affordable, particularly with many dive packages beginning at just over $30 a day. Taiwan is rapidly replacing other divers in Southeast Asia; with improved infrastructure and reduced congestion, Taiwan is rapidly becoming the smart choice.

The sudden increase in popularity of Taiwan is a subset of a larger trend of travel- the population is seeking to go places that are cleaner, less crowded, and more organized. Viral Liquid Glass videos have hastened this transition, making popular niche dive sites into international destinations in just a few days.
With increasing numbers of travelers looking to have meaningful and sightseeing experiences, Taiwan is selling itself not only as an alternative destination to the well-known Bali but as a high-end diving destination itself.
