The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) called on President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo or Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani to attend the trial related to the judicial review of Government Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning State Financial Policy and Financial System Stability for Handling Covid-19 Pandemic.

The trial is planned to be held in the Plenary Court Room of the Constitutional Court Building on Wednesday, May 20 at 10:00 WIB. The session is to listen to the explanation from The People’s Representative Council (DPR) and the statement from the President.

“We as the people ask the House of Representatives and the President to be present at the trial and not be absent. We as the people must be given an explanation of what and why there should be a Corona Perppu in which there is absolute immunity for financial officials,” the MAKI statement as quoted by CNNIndonesia.com on Saturday, May 16.

“If the President cannot attend, then he must at least be represented by Minister of Law and Human Rights and Minister of Finance to provide an explanation for the enactment of the Perppu Corona. We hope that the President will not be represented by echelon II or III officials because he is not a policymaker.”

MAKI has prepared four legal expert witnesses and two financial experts to be present at the trial related to the judicial review of the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law number 1 of 2020.

This step was taken by MAKI to avoid absolute immunity which is feared to make officials careless and careless.

“We only oppose the absolute immunity of officials as stipulated in article 27 of the Perppu Corona. We only want officials to be careful, thorough, and not corrupt in carrying out the mandate in the form of revoked official immunity as stipulated in article 27 of the Perppu.”

Previously, President Jokowi was asked to attend a plenary session at the Constitutional Court (MK) related to the judicial review of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 1 of 2020 concerning State Financial Policy and Financial System Stability for Handling the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The holding of the trial is adjusted to the situation and condition of the coronavirus pandemic, so that the Constitutional Court implemented health protocols, including having to wear a mask, gloves, check body temperature, and maintain physical distance.
