UAE and U.S. Work Together for Peace in Armenia and Azerbaijan

On August 8, 2025, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a historic peace agreement at the White House, ending decades of conflict. While former U.S. President Donald Trump played a mediation role, the UAE’s involvement was crucial in preparing the ground for dialogue and trust between the nations.

The White House shared an update from its official X account:

UAE’s Mediation Efforts in Abu Dhabi

In July 2025, Abu Dhabi hosted a high-level meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The UAE provided a neutral platform that allowed the leaders to engage directly. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision and diplomacy were central to this success, demonstrating the UAE’s growing influence as a mediator in regional conflicts.

International Recognition and Cooperation

The United States formally recognised the UAE’s contribution to the peace process. The U.S. mission in the UAE praised Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for facilitating the talks in Abu Dhabi. This cooperation highlights the strategic UAE-U.S. partnership in promoting peace and stability across the region.

Diplomatic Influence of the UAE

The UAE’s success in mediating the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict strengthens its position as a trusted mediator for regional disputes. By providing a neutral environment and fostering constructive dialogue, the UAE sets an example for other nations on how diplomacy can resolve conflicts peacefully.

The UAE’s proactive role ensures that peace is not only achieved but maintained. Its leadership in this process showcases the country’s commitment to regional stability, international collaboration, and constructive diplomacy.
