An expat’s guide to Malaysia’s top beaches

Malaysia – Many images may spring to mind when you think about Malaysia. The fast rising economy and the massive KL Petronas Twin Towers may be the reason for some. Others may recall a sizzling dish of nasi lemak and the country’s diverse culture. In any case, having quick access to some of Southeast Asia‘s most beautiful beaches is one of the finest aspects of living in Malaysia. Anyone who wants to spend a day just admiring a stunning scenery can find it in Malaysia, which has fantastic water, sun, and beach.

Which beaches, with so many to choose from, are the most worthwhile? Luckily, we are familiar with Malaysia here in Santa Fe. Our Malaysian crew has put their heads together to come up with a list of the top five beaches you must see if you are relocating to Malaysia.

Redang

Redang is one of Malaysia’s biggest islands, located off the east coast. It is one of the most popular beaches in the nation due to its turquoise ocean and white sand beaches. On the one hand, this brings visitors, but it also demands a high standard of infrastructure. Even with people kicking about, getting on and off the island is simple and straightforward, and with apparently limitless expanses of beach to enjoy, it’s difficult to feel crowded.

Borneo

Although Borneo is theoretically shared by Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, this only means that we have more cultural opportunities. If diving is one of your hobbies, Borneo is a place you will undoubtedly fall in love with. Even if you don’t like the concept of breathing underwater, Borneo has a lot to offer, such as various natural reserves and national parks. There are also lovely golden sand beaches that back up to beautiful woods that are difficult to resist.

Perhentian Islands

The Perhentian Islands, which are located north of Redang and feature beach bungalows and unspoiled beaches, are quite popular with budget travelers. It’s also an excellent spot to learn to scuba dive or get your certification. However, the beaches here are highly popular, so plan your vacation to these islands accordingly if you want to escape the crowds.

Rawa Island

Rawa Island is considered by some to be Malaysia’s ideal beach destination. On Rawa, you’ll discover fine white sand, clear lakes, a backpacker lodge, and a 4-star eco resort. There are no stores, airlines, or ferries here; just solitude, nature, and beaches.

Langkawi

Langkawi, perhaps Malaysia’s most well-known beach location, provides a variety of sceneries for visitors to enjoy. This 99-island archipelago offers a diverse range of sights and activities, including beaches, mountains, jungles, and wetlands. We suggest taking the cable car up to Gunung Mat Chinchang and crossing the Sky Bridge. With breathtaking views of Thailand across the ocean and the possibility to cure your fear of heights (it’s called the Sky Bridge for a reason), this location has a lot to offer adrenaline seekers. The Laman Padi Rice Garden, the Underwater World aquarium, and the cultural displays in Oriental Village are all worth seeing if you prefer your feet on solid ground.
