SABTANG, BATANES – The northernmost province of Batanes on Thursday, logged it’s second case of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, the local government confirmed.
According to the official facebook page of the Provincial Government of Batanes, the patient is currently asymptomatic and will be under strict isolation at an isolation facility in Sabtang.
After the province managed to stay virus free for almost 8 months, the northernmost province recorded it’s first infection on Tuesday.
The 2 Covid-19 patients are locally stranded individuals (LSIs). The provincial government said that they have arrived last September 22 via Philippine Air Force.
The statement said that strict Contact Tracing are currently being implemented by the city’s OVID-19 Task Group – Health Cluster.
The city’s first case was a 29-year-old resident of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Batanes Gov. Marilou Cayco announced on Wednesday to implement quarantine measures to curb the spread of the virus.
The said quarantine measures will be implemented until October 13.
The Batanes Covid-19 said that the protocols includes limited movement, traveling for essential goods, work and services. Commercial flights to and fro the province are currently suspended along with mass gathering. Their residents are also required to wear face masks and observing physical distancing.
