Biden’s COVID-19 symptoms have eased, mostly just sore throat

His doctor reported on Sunday that US President Joe Biden’s condition since contracting COVID-19 has dramatically improved and that his main symptom is now a sore throat, July 24th.

Despite testing positive for the coronavirus on Thursday, Biden’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, said in a memo released by the White House that Biden’s cough and body aches have subsided and that he is not experiencing any shortness of breath.

“His condition is greatly improving, and that trend is expected to continue. These days, his sore throat is his main complaint. This is promising because it indicates that his lymphoid system is activating, which is a necessary step in clearing the virus from his body.” That’s what O’Connor said. Biden’s vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and body temperature) were all within normal ranges.

O’Connor noted, “His voice remains a bit deep.”

No one among Biden’s 17 known contacts has tested positive for the coronavirus, White House COVID-19 coordinator Ashish Jha said earlier Sunday on Fox News Sunday and ABC’s This Week.

Despite being diagnosed with a highly contagious coronavirus subvariant, 79-year-old Biden has shown only mild symptoms since his diagnosis. O’Connor said on Saturday that the genomic sequencing results pointed to the BA.5 subvariant as the likely cause of Biden’s illness.

On Sunday’s episode of Face the Nation on CBS, Jha said that Biden was sick with an upper respiratory infection.

The White House has been making an effort to highlight President Biden’s capacity to continue working despite his sickness. On Thursday, the White House shared a video in which the president reassured the American people that he was in good health, and on Friday, the president took part in virtual meetings with White House officials.

The plans for the president to travel during the early part of this week have been scrapped. Therefore he did not participate in any public activities over the weekend.

The news of Biden’s diagnosis came at a time when his presidency was facing a number of political and economic challenges, including the fact that his policy agenda was under attack on Capitol Hill and that high inflation was hurting his approval rating with voters. Voters will decide in November whether or not Republicans or Democrats control Congress by going to the polls.

The Democrats, led by President Joe Biden, presently hold a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives and control the Senate, which is evenly divided, thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris’ ability to break ties.
