COVID-19: Over 300 pilgrims in Sabah urged to undergo screening

TAWAU – Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass urged over 300 Sabah tabligh participants attented the tabligh gathering from  Feb 23 to March 1 to undergo Covid-19 screening test.

Zaini said that they were able to track down 1,000 individuals, 700 of which undergone screening.

“We tracking down another 300 individuals. We urge them to go to the Ministry of Health for the Covid-19 screening.” he said at a press conference at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarter today.

According to the police commissioner, there were excellent cooperation with the Tabligh pilgrims however there were still a number of participants that they weren’t able to track down.

“Don’t be afraid because the police will not arrest them. We just want them to undergo a medical examination and if they are found to be healthy then they will be allowed to go home.”

Zaini said in regards to the Movement Control Order in Sabah, the level of public awareness had so far been increasing but the compliance still needs improvement as some individuals still went out without reasonable purpose.

“We would like to increase the number of roadblocks and inspections throughout Sabah.” Currently, Sabah has been implementing  71 roadblocks and checkpoints.
