KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDHEP) has inspected 2,453 wholesale and retail business premises starting from Jan 25 to date.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that 19 offences were detected with a compound value of RM67,400 and a seizure worth RM4,343.50. 16 of the business premises were involved in selling above the maximum price while others were reprimanded for not displaying prices.

He once again emphasized that face mask is a regulated price item under the Price Control (Controlled Prices) Order 2009 and the Price Control (Maximum Pricing) (No.2) Order 2009.

“Any seller who sells face mask above the regulated price is liable and can be penalised under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011(AKHAP).”

He urged the consumers to file a complaint to the ministry should they come across face masks being sold beyond the control price.

Businesses involved in selling above the maximum price is liable to fine up to RM100,000 or maximum three-years’ jail, or both, or pay a compound of RM50,000. The Ministry will continue to monitor the industry to resolve any challenges and constraints until the outbreak has been contained to make sure the supply of face masks in the market will be accesible to the public at reasonable prices.
