According to Department of Agriculture’s (DA) price monitoring reports, the prices of some basic agricultural commodities decreased by as much as 71%. The retail prices of meat, fish and vegetables in the public market have drastically gone done as the restrictions on the movement of people and goods in the entire country eases.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the increase of prices during lockdown was not caused by lockdown but rather the gridlock in checkpoints that slowed the movement of agricultural produce.

Prices for fruit and vegetables on June 11 have decreased by 3% to 71%, while Meat and fish prices also declined.

Garlic registered the highest price hike, from 350php per kilo to a now 100php kilo. With the coronavirus cases again spiking showed no signs of going down, the government may imposed another series of lockdowns and wet market vendor, a consumer and a supplier are not guaranteeing that current prices would become the “new normal” until the situation normalized.
