After defeating England 3-0 on Tuesday during the badminton mixed team competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Singapore was awarded the bronze medal, which they carried home with them (Aug 2).
In the mixed doubles competition, Singapore’s Terry Hee Yong Kai and Jessica Tan Wei Han faced off against England’s Lauren Smith and Ben Lane. The Singaporean team emerged victorious in the opening match, winning 21-17 and 25-23.
Toby Penty of England defeated Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the first set of the men’s singles match in the second match of the day. The score of the first set was 25-23.
After tying the score with a victory in the second set with a score of 21-11, Loh then prevailed in the third set with a score of 25-23.
Yeo Jia Min of Singapore defeated Freya Redfearn of Singapore 21-18, 21-14 to win the bronze medal for Singapore. Yeo entered the match with a 2-0 lead for Singapore.
This is the fourth medal that Singapore has won at these games; the country’s previous victories came in the events of table tennis and swimming.
